The first thing I came up with for this song was the chorus vocal melody, but it actually started on guitar. Then I added some powerchords under that, came up with some lyrics and later the first verse. Originally, I just reused the first verse's melody for the second one, but I thought it'd be cool to instead base the melody off a harmonization of said melody. I'm really happy with how the second verse and the bridge turned out, I didn't know I could do that with my voice!
One thing that's weird about this song is how parts of it are in D standard and others are in E (if I remember correctly).
Also, it's worth noting the ambient guitars in the bridge and the intro originally came from the last chorus.
lyrics
cut, this skin of ours
we feel the pain that we've caused for them
look up towards the sky
i swear there's more
beyond what the eye can see
this view in fragments
it's so unclear
we need to put it back together
how could we be so
unaware
of the damage we're doing
guilty
i know it's all our fault
cut, this skin of ours
we feel the pain that we've caused for them
look up towards the sky
i swear there's more
beyond what the eye can see
this all feels pointless
but life moves on
we need to see the beauty in it
how could we be so
unaware
of all that we have missed out on
guilty
i know it's all our fault
cut, this skin of ours
we feel the pain that we've caused for them
look up towards the sky
i swear there's more
beyond what the eye can see
you're scared
that they might give up on you
you think
that maybe it wasn't worth it
it's hard
to open up and stop playing pretend
it's hard
to go and face reality
cut, this skin of ours
we feel the pain that we've caused for them
look up towards the sky
i swear there's more
beyond what the eye can see
